Jack McKnight Adolescent and Adult Therapist from the Chapel Hill TEACCH Clinic spoke on
"Preparing for Adolescence". Jack brought with him a handout describing the
"TEACCH SERVICES FOR ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTS"
I. SERVICES IN THE CLINIC
   A. Diagnostic Evaluation
      1. Assessments Used
         a. Adolescent/Adult Psychoeducational Profile (AAPEP). Held 1st & 3rd Mondays.
            (Vocational/Communication/Leisure/Vocational Behavior/Interpersonal Skills)
         b. "Modified" AAPEP for higher functioning
         c. Psychological tests - ( if IQ scores needed and for further diagnostic
             clarification with higher functioning)
   B. Extended Sessions
      1. Purpose
         a. Work on specific skills and chores
         b. Help parents work with their son/daughter
         c. Counseling sessions for higher functioning
         d. Counseling sessions for parents
         e. Home visits
      2. Other Follow-Up
         a. Consultation visits to mainstreamed classrooms/programs
         b. Advocacy and information gathering
         c. "Contracts"
II. DIRECT SERVICE AND TRAINING PROGRAMS
   A. Middle School and High School Options
      1. Focus on Cirriculum
         a. Emphasis on training for adult life
         b. Transition Plan (part of I.E.P. from age 14-16)
            Should be done before exiting High School
         c. Work on endurance and independence
         d. Use of tools and equipment
         e. Group activities designed around vocational or domestic activities
   B. Adult Program Options
      1. Vocational
         a. Supported Employment Program - Through TEACCH A&R
            1. Job Coach (Assessment and On-the-Job Training for a limited time)
            2. Enclave (at least 5 workers with one Job Coach)
            3. Mobile Crew (similiar to enclave but mobile at least 5 workers with one Job Coach)
         b. Consultation as requested to sheltered workshops
         c. Consultation as requested to other adult day programs
      2. Residential
         a. Carolina Living and Learning Center - CLLC - (919) 542-1910
         b. Contracted consultation to Autism Services, Inc. (Raleigh)
         c. Consultation as requested to other residential programs
III. ADDITIONAL SUPPORT AND SERVICES TO CLIENTS AND FAMILIES
   A. Parent Support Groups
      1. Parents of Adolescents Group (Dr. Marcus / Chapel Hill)
      2. Parents of Adults Group (Dr. Marcus / Raleigh)
      3. Fathers Group (Dr. Marcus / TEACCH Clinic)
      4. Mothers Group (Dr. Marcus / TEACCH Clinic)
   B. Client Groups
      1. Adult Social Skills Group (Gary Mesibov & Kathy Hearsey / Chapel Hill)
      2. Adult Social Skills Group (John Thomas / Raleigh)
      3. Adolescent Social Skills Group - "Teen Group" (CHTC Staff)
      4. Other Social Groups "currently on hold until after the 1st of 98"
   C. Camps
      1. Consultation and Training to ASNC Summer Camp Program
          (Weeks divided by age and functioning level)
      2. Consultation and Training to other camp programs as requested
